Egypt Local Time — EET (UTC+2)
From Cairo toward Makkah Al-Mukarramah (SE) — ~1,290 km
Cairo Egypt prayer times are calculated using the official Egyptian General Authority of Survey method with exact coordinates (30.0444°N, 31.2357°E) and Egypt local time EET/UTC+2 (EEST/UTC+3 in summer DST). Cairo is the largest city in Africa and the Arab world and the capital of Egypt with over 22 million people in its metropolitan area.
The Qibla direction from Cairo is 136° (southeast) toward Makkah, ~1,290 km away. Founded in 969 AD by the Fatimid dynasty, Cairo became the spiritual capital of the Islamic world, home to Al-Azhar University (oldest continuously operating university on Earth), the Amr ibn al-As Mosque (oldest in Africa, 642 AD), Saladin's Citadel, and the Muhammad Ali Alabaster Mosque.
Cairo rests on an Islamic heritage spanning more than a thousand years. The Fatimid Caliph Al-Muizz li-Din Allah founded it in 969 AD and established Al-Azhar University in 970 AD — still operating today as the oldest academic institution on Earth and the world's highest Sunni Islamic authority. Before that, the same area (Fustat) witnessed the construction of the Amr ibn al-As Mosque in 642 AD — the first mosque in all of Africa.
Cairo sits on the banks of the Nile surrounded by unparalleled human heritage: the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx (meters from its western boundary), Saladin's Citadel with the Muhammad Ali Alabaster Mosque, the ancient Khan el-Khalili alleys, and the Egyptian Museum with its Pharaonic treasures. Prayer times follow Egypt time EET/UTC+2 in winter and EEST/UTC+3 in summer.
